Testaccio

Testaccio is a historic riverside quarter of Rome, set on the east bank of the Tiber just south of the Aventine Hill and the old city centre. Long known as a working-class neighbourhood, it retains a distinct local character built around its covered food market, traditional trattorias and the former slaughterhouse complex, now reused for cultural and community uses. Its housing mixes early twentieth-century apartment blocks with converted industrial and artisan buildings, making it a settled, walkable district where property is sought for its central location and everyday neighbourhood life.
