Л'Акуила

L'Aquila is the capital of Abruzzo, set in a high mountain basin in the central Apennines beneath the Gran Sasso massif. The city is known for its medieval street plan, its historic churches and squares, and its university, with surrounding countryside of hill villages and national park land. Its housing stock mixes restored historic-centre apartments with newer residential areas rebuilt after the 2009 earthquake.
